Martin Strmiska
Bratislava, Slovakia
Martin Strmiska has been actively diving since 1995. Since 2008, he has worked professionally as an underwater journalist and photographer, a career that has taken him on thousands of dives across a wide range of environments and conditions around the world. He became an active CCR diver in 2013. Rather than seeing a rebreather as a goal in itself, Martin has always approached CCR as an extension of his fundamental diving equipment — a tool that allows him to work more effectively underwater and to make full use of the advantages the technology offers. Silence, extended time, minimal disturbance and freedom of movement have allowed him to blend into the underwater environment as naturally as possible, whether working with marine life, exploring wrecks or diving in demanding technical environments. As a CCR instructor, Martin brings this practical experience into his teaching. His approach is built not only on mastering the rebreather itself, but on learning how to use CCR as an integrated part of diving — efficiently, naturally and with a clear understanding of its possibilities and limitations. It is this experience, accumulated over more than a decade of CCR diving in widely different conditions, that he passes on to his students.
