Interview:
What (or who) persuaded you to become a professional diver?
My dad was a commercial diver in British Columbia, and some of my earliest memories were on his dive boat exploring remote coastlines. That sparked my lifelong curiosity for the underwater world. Later, my fiancé Maxwel encouraged me to take the leap and get my commercial license so I could assist him on film shoots around the globe.
What’s the biggest challenge you face when diving?
For me, the biggest challenge underwater has been learning to quiet my mind when things get intense. Whether it’s unexpected currents or a tricky situation with gear, I’ve had to really lean on my training and remind myself to stay present. That challenge has shaped me into a calmer, more confident diver both in the water and in life.
Which diving achievement are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of earning my commercial license and turning what once felt like a dream into an incredible chapter of my career. Coming from a background in emergency healthcare, stepping into professional diving was a big leap but it allowed me to blend those skills with my passion for the ocean. Now, working on projects that combine safety, storytelling, and conservation, I feel like all the different parts of my world have come together in a way I never imagined.
What was your first dive like?
It was love at first dive! I remember feeling like I had finally discovered what was missing from my life. I loved snorkeling and freediving as a kid, so being able to stay under long enough to enjoy my surroundings felt peaceful and surreal. even though it was a challenge to get used to the gear and a completely new environment. That mix of calm and excitement hooked me instantly.
Why do you prefer rebreather diving?
The silence and peace it offers. With no noisy bubbles, the ocean feels undisturbed and you experience the underwater world in its natural state. Marine life often comes closer, and you feel more like a part of the environment.
What’s your favorite piece of gear?
The Divesoft Liberty Light rebreather! It’s the perfect size for me, compact and lighter than the standard Liberty, which makes it ideal for traveling to remote dive locations.
Favorite dive spot?
Warm water: Fuvahmulah, Maldives and Darwin/ Wolf Islands in the Galápagos, because of the sheer density of sharks and marine life you can see on a single dive.
Cold water: closer to home, Vancouver Island. Winter diving here brings amazing visibility and vibrant life that surprises even seasoned divers
